Tea tree essential oil is extracted by steam distillation from the leaves and twigs of the Melaleuca Alternifolia plant. The oil has a pungent but pleasant smell and is translucent in colour. This essential oil is very popular, mainly due to its wide range of effects, including anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, antiviral, antiseptic, antifungal, etc. c. Tea tree oil can be used in household cleaning products such as soaps, air fresheners and as an insect repellent. It helps remove mould and harmful bacteria from a variety of surfaces such as shower curtains, kitchen worktops and dishwashers. It is also effective when sprayed in the air. Tea tree oil used in aromatherapy can help relieve feelings of stress and fatigue. It can be useful for colds and respiratory diseases, as it is considered an expectorant.
The oil is also used for skin care – it is particularly valuable for acne-prone skin because of its antiseptic and cleansing properties. It can also help balance sebum levels in the skin and scalp.
