What is the Binchotan charcoal production process?
This ancient Binchotan coal production process is very interesting. The wood must be heated to a very high temperature in the stove and then cooled quickly. It is covered with a mixture of soil, sand and ash. The result is a very hard and smooth charcoal that makes a distinct metallic sound when you walk on it.
What makes this charcoal a good water filter?
Binchotan charcoal not only removes impurities from the water, but can also release minerals back into the water. The surface of the carbon is full of tiny holes that draw in pollutants such as chlorine and carry them away from drinking water. Binchotan coals have so many holes that a surface area of just 1 g is 500 mᒾ.
How much power does one carbon filter provide?
Used daily, it will filter about 1.1 litres of water for 3 months. If you have a larger container or jug to filter, simply increase the number of charcoal sticks accordingly.
How long does each filter last?
3 months if taken daily. You can then boil it for 10 minutes to “recharge” the carbon and then use it for another 3 months.
Should I throw away the carbon filter?
Not at all, one of the wonderful things about this special charcoal is that it has so many great secondary uses. It can remove moisture from your wardrobe to prevent mould on your clothes and also absorbs unpleasant odours, making it perfect for use in a cat litter box or nappy box.
Can I add flavourings to the water if I also use a charcoal filter?
If you want to use the Binchotan carbon water filter, DO NOT add anything else to the water.
